Jasmeet's love for music started at a very young age. Although his training began later on (due to a lack of teachers in his area), his interest in learning the Sikh religious music (Kirtan) triggered him to slowly pursue his passion. He began his musical journey at the age of twelve by learning both the Tabla and Jori from Ustad Avtarjit Singh Honey Ji, an impeccable Tabla Vadak of the Punjab Gharana (school of music). Sadly, shortly after Jasmeet began his training Honey Ji fell ill and passed away. Ustad Ranjit Singh Ji (one of Honey Ji's teachers and his father) saw the dedication and potential in Jasmeet and decided to continue his education himself. Currently, Jasmeet has been studying under none other than the legendary Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Pinky JiĀ of the Punjab and Benaras Gharanas. Jasmeet has been studying in depth the various aspects of Tabla and Jori for over 10 years now in the traditional Guru-Shishya system of learning.

Jasmeet has also been fortunate to spend time in workshops with different masters over the years such as Pandit Yogesh Samsi, Pandit Sushil Kumar Jain, Pandit Puran Maharaj, Pandit Kumar Bose, and Pandit Nayan Ghosh to name a few.

Jasmeet has toured extensively throughout North America, United Kingdom, and India. He currently lives in Brampton, Ontario (Canada) where he also passes on his knowledge to his students.

Jasmeet's Gurus

Jasmeet strongly believes that all credit for his playing goes to his Gurus, who have all contributed immensely to him throughout his journey. Each of them have influenced him and inspired him in their own way and have added a new dimension to his playing. It is because of the amount of tremendous love and blessings that they have showered upon him, that he is able to play.

Ustad Avtarjit Singh Honey Ji

Ustad Avtarjit Singh Ji studied Jori under the legendary Pakhawaj Samrat Baba Nihal Singh Ji and Tabla from Ustad Dileep Singh Ji (senior disciple of Ustad Bahadur Singh Ji) of the Punjab Gharana of Tabla. He then continued to study under his father Ustad Ranjit Singh Ji (also a disciple of Ustad Bahadur Singh Ji). Unfortunately, Ustad Ji passed away at a young age with his main student being Jasmeet.

Ustad Ranjit Singh Ji

Ustad Ranjit Singh Ji studied Tabla under legends such as Ustad Karamatullah Khan, Ustad Jahangir Khan and Ustad Ahmed Jaan Thrikwa to name a few. However he takes pride in being a student of Ustad Bahadur Singh Ji (legendary maestro of the Kasur-Punjab Gharana). He also studied vocal music from Ustad Sohan Singh Ji of the Agra Gharana and Achariya Giani Gian Singh Almast Ji of the Gwalior Gharana. Ustad Ji currently resides in California, USA where he has his own school, Bhai Mardana Institute of Music, where he teaches his students.

Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Pinky Ji

Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Ji began his musical journey at a very young age thanks to the Namdhari Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji (spiritual leader of the Namdhari Sect). He first studied Jori from legendary Pakhawaj Samrat Baba Nihal Singh Ji. At the age of nine, he was sent to Varanasi to study under the doyen of the Benaras Gharana, Pandit Kishan Maharaj Ji where he spent 18 years. Ustad Ji has received many awards over the years and is highly respected by all for his accomplishments.
